State University of Surabaya (Unesa)

State University of Surabaya (Unesa) can not be separated from the whole long journey of national education. With has produced about 80,000 graduates, Unesa dare to position itself as a provider of higher education are able to plan the development of education quality, self-evaluate to prepare graduates who are highly competitive (nation competitiveness) and entrepreneurial (entrepreneurship), and govern all activities in a healthy organisiasi mechanism (organizational health).
Unesa must be independent (autonomy) as a Legal Entity Government Education (BHPP) as mandated by Law No. 20/2003 on the National Education System (Education Law).


History Unesa can not be separated from the Teachers' Training College Surabaya which started around 1950. Starting from the course B-I and B-II Science Chemistry and Science Definitely that utilize the facilities and infrastructure such as classrooms and laboratories of the Dutch education, Hoogere Burger schol (HBS). The courses are held in Surabaya to meet the needs of junior high school and senior high school teachers. Such courses include: (a) BI and B-II Chemistry, (b) BI and BII of Science, (c) BI English, (d) BI German, (e) BI Engineering, (f) BI Education physical, (g) Economic BI, (h) Bank of Commerce, and (i) BI Aircraft Science. In 1957, the courses BI grouped into two categories, namely (1) Course BI General, which includes English and German, and (2) Course BI Courses, which include Chemicals, of Science, Economics, Commerce, Engineering, Education physical and Aircraft Science. Such courses lasted until 1960.

To eliminate dualism courses B-I and B-II with graduates who do not
title, and the Faculty of Education (Guidance and Counseling) that produces graduates degree, with MPRS No. 11 / MPRS / 1960 both courses are integrated into the Faculty of Education (Guidance and Counseling) who scored a secondary school teacher. Furthermore, the agency, based on the Minister of Education and Culture number 6/1961 dated February 7, 1961, is integrated into one of the faculty in the University of Airlangga FKIP branch Malang and named FKIP Airlangga University Surabaya Branch.

In 1962 with the founding of the Academy of Teacher Education (APG), which
later became the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG), dualism reappears. To eliminate such dualism, by virtue of Presidential Decree 1/1963, dated January 3, 1963 conducted by FKIP IPG integration into the Institute of Teacher Training and Education (Teachers' Training College). With this integration FKIP Airlangga University in Malang, on May 20, 1964, its status was changed to Malang Teachers' Training College and Guidance and Counseling Center, Airlangga University Surabaya branch turned into IKIP Surabaya Malang Branch. Such state lasts until December 19, 1964.

Based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science number 182/1964 dated December 19, 1964, officially Teachers' Training College Surabaya stand alone with the leadership of a presidium date was set as the date of birth of Surabaya Teachers' Training College that every year is celebrated as the anniversary of Surabaya Teachers' Training College. In 1964, Teachers' Training College Surabaya has five faculties, namely (1) Faculty of Education (FIP), (2) Teacher Training Faculty of Social Sciences (FKIS), Teaching Faculty of Letters of Arts (FKSS), (4) Teaching Faculty of Science Eksakta (FKIE) and (5) Teaching Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FKIT). On March 1, 1977, School Cleaner Sports (STO) to integrate with Surabaya Teachers' Training College by the Minister of Education and Culture R.I. number 042 / O / 1977
dated February 22, 1977 and became the Teaching Faculty of Sport Sciences (FKIK), which is the sixth faculty managed by Teachers' Training College Surabaya. Based on Government Regulation R.I. number 27/1981, Surabaya Teachers' Training College has six faculties, namely: (1) Faculty of Education (FIP), (2) Faculty of Languages ​​and Arts Education (FPBS), (3) Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FPMIPA), ( 4) Education Faculty of Social Sciences (FPIPS), (5) Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education (FPTK), and (6) Faculty of Education and Health (FPOK).

With the expansion of the mandate entrusted to organize (wider mandate), Teachers' Training College Surabaya turns into State University of Surabaya (Unesa) based on Presidential Decree R.I. number 93/1999, dated August 4, 1999 to manage the six faculties, namely (1) Faculty of Education (FIP), (2) Faculty of Languages ​​and Literature (FBS), (3) Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA), (4 ) Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS), (5) Faculty of Engineering (FT), and (6) of the Faculty of Sport Sciences (FIK).
Unesa is currently managing 63 programs of study, education and nonkependidikan, with a diploma (D2 and D3), degree (S1), and a graduate consisting of two strata (S2) and three strata (S3). Because Unesa trip can not be separated from the Teachers 'Training College Surabaya, the day of birth (the anniversary) Unesa still use the anniversary Surabaya Teachers' Training College.

Learning from traveling courses teacher BI and B-II to be a university, does not preclude that in the future Unesa will develop into a major university located region of West Surabaya study programs, departments, and faculties that correspond to the developmental needs of society , Unesa development that emphasizes the competence of graduates and the needs of stakeholders will always be a chore that was never finished for Unesa.
